LIVE: Spoon @ Berkeley Greek Theatre (08/12/06)

One of my all-time favorite venues for catching live music is the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California. Their summertime concert series always present an eclectic mix of genres and you can't beat the cool Bay Area evenings. In recent years I've seen The White Stripes, Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, and a host of others (including Paul Simon, where I sat up on the hill behind the theatre and drank boxed wine).

I also managed to catch the most excellent Spoon during their tour with Death Cab For Cutie. Lucky for me (and you), BayTaper.com recorded a set during the two-night stint and has made it available to the public. It's an excellent live recording of an excellent band. Enjoy.

MUSIC: The Morning Benders

New news on local band The Morning Benders (they blog here) has recently surfaced surrounding their upcoming album called Talking Through Tin Cans. They've also got designs on a 7-inch which'll have a non-album b side (and we all know how much macktronic loves vinyl). The full-length, which drops on +1 Records soon, promises to build upon their insanely catchy catalog. Here's a new track they've unleashed on the world.

::: The Morning Benders - Crosseyed

Check them out live at the Bay Area's own Noise Pop Festival (Feb 28th with Kelley Stoltz and the Grand Archives) or this year's SXSW. You can also listen to a few more tracks off the new album or get your hands on their previously released EP's here.

MUSIC: Tempo No Tempo

I've had my eye on this Berkeley-based band for a while, and now is as good a time as ever to introduce Tempo No Tempo to the Macktronic faithful. Their debut EP (The Get Down) is as good a collection of dance/rock/goodness as anything I've heard in a while. Now they're set to release a new EP (Repetition), and they'll be celebrating this with a release party at Bottom of the Hill on November 15th along with The Donts, The Lovely Public, and DJ Pasternak (of Lemonade). Hosted by the good folks of The Deli SF, it promises to be a good time.

::: Tempo No Tempo - A Different Weapon (f/ The Get Down EP)

You can buy the EP's through their myspace page for only 7 bucks (shipping included).

MUSIC: The Attachments

Don't know what it is about March, but I keep finding out about excellent local bands. Here we have The Attachments out of Berkeley and their unique brand indie pop. Sounds like Weezer had a love child on the beach with one of The Beatles. Here's a song off their latest release.

::: The Attachments - Karla-la

You can buy their debut EP over on the myspace page.
(What's up with all the girl-titled songs?)

MUSIC: The Morning Benders

At the present moment, by favorite Berkeley-based indie rock act is The Morning Benders. If you're not familiar with them, they've got one excellent EP out and another forthcoming. Their sound is for fans of The Shins of Langhorne Slim; they've also got an interesting throwback pop jangle to their tracks, which I like. Here's a fresh off the press song from their upcoming EP called Boarded Doors.
