MUSIC: The You

The You's album, called For The Masses, is one of the more fascinating albums to land in my lap lately. Josh Verbanets, out of Pittsburgh, is the man behind the project. Recorded over a number of different sessions in a number of different states with a number of different musicians, the album ends up exactly as you might imagine: erratic. I imagine the group would benefit from a consistent recording session on their next album. However, with that said, there is definitely some talent here..... good songwriting and structure are immediate noticeable. Here are a couple of my favorite tracks off the album.

MUSIC: Golem!

Fresh back from a trip to Germany, I can't think of another band that's a better fit to post than Golem. This extremely interesting band is described as an "Eastern European folk-punk band" and I think that's a pretty good summary. Their new release, called "Fresh Off Boat", was released on August 22nd. Featured guests include Amanda Palmer from The Dresden Dolls and Mike Gordon of Phish. Try on a couple tracks...

::: Golem - Ushti Baba
::: Golem - Warsaw Is Khelm
::: Golem - Bublichki

I mean, whose day isn't better when a klezmer band is involved?
