CONTEST: Fader "Southern Comfort" 7-inch

Cool contest going on over at FADER, here's the details:

"The first run of our Southern Comfort/FADER 7-inch series has arrived. For this limited-edition vinyl, we asked Lou Laurita to handle cover art duty, and got some of our pals to contribute unreleased jamz: M Ward and Jim James are featured on the A-side with “Magic Trick (Kansas City Remix),” then flip it over for Ladyhawk’s “Soap”. It’s not available in stores, but we do have copies for our loyal blog readers (that’s you). Email us at contests@thefader.com and tell us the theme of M Ward's 2005 album release and we'll send five of you a copy. For free! Get to Googling and get at us with your answers. "

It's great since it features two things we love over here at macktronic.... contests and vinyl seven inchers. More later on this obsession, plus end-of-the-year musings and updates on changes on this here blog.

MUSIC: Fujiya & Miyagi

I'm a little late posting something on Fujiya & Miyagi, but I felt I needed to give the whole album a listen before posting on them. Don't get me wrong, I like the single tracks, but it felt like this was a project that would work better as a whole. Well, I think I was right. This British trio has crafted a beautiful, melodic, and catchy collection of new electro pop. And the good news is you won't have to wait long until the album is released stateside. From their website:

Deaf Dumb & Blind Recordings www.deafdumbandblind.net will release Transparent Things,
featuring bonus track Reeboks in Heaven, in the USA & Canada on 23rd January 2007.
Available online now in the USA from www.beatport.com

For the time being, here's the excellent first track off Transparent Things.

REVISIT: Meanest Man Contest

A friend reminded me this morning that Meanest Man Contest is awesome. I picked up this album a couple years ago and it never fails to drag me up from an unexpected place. Here's a fantastic track off of their 2003 release titled Merit. (As in Lake Merit, which is in the heart of Oakland, for all you non-bay kids out there). Fantastic beats, I'm telling you.

::: Meanest Man Contest - Science Diet

You can buy the album here, and I suggest you do just that.
